A Safari Tent Glamping Experience in Fountain Inn, South Carolina

I have come to learn “glamping” is a completely subjective word that means something different to each person. We’ve seen fully stocked geodomes with private “everything’s” and A-Frame communities that encourage a family, sharing mentality. Because it is such a broad term, we weren’t sure what to expect of WyldStay of Greenville’s Safari Tent haven. After experiencing it, we’ve come to the conclusion that it is the best of both worlds. Privacy AND community.

We had the privilege of experiencing all -and I mean all, as in a LOT- that WyldStay of Greenville has to offer. From pasture experiences to romantic dinner kits, this place put a capital “G” in front of the word glamping. For starters, the safari tents themselves. In terms every Doctor Who fan will understand: it’s bigger on the inside! Most people presume tents to be fairly small with a cot or single chair, but these tents felt like full rooms. Queen sized beds, mini heaters for the colder months, one or two wide chairs with pillows on each, a coffee station prepped and ready for us and bedside tables. Some of the tents even have a separate room big enough for two sleeper cots and storage. Every tent sleeps 2-6 people.

The canvas is durable and thick with windows and entry flaps that zip open and closed, it is perfectly dark inside when shut and light and airy when opened. The bedding provided was perfectly picked for the weather and everything has that crisp, new feel to it.

Once you arrive at the WyldStay of Greenville safari tent, the world before you begs for exploration. On the property is a swimming pool fed by five naturally occurring springs, an open pond for free-use of the provided paddle board and two-person kayaks, fishing options with fishing poles available, and lots and lots of open space for games. The most unique feature however, is the pastureland that surrounds the grounds. These open fields are home to mini, medium, and micro highland cows, British white park cows, a high park cow, and two Belgian draft horses named Rose and Gabby.

They all love scratches, are very friendly, great with people, and pose perfectly for photos. For an extra special treat, you can upgrade your stay to include a meet and greet inside the fence or a pastureland experience where you can feed, pet, and be close and personal with these gentle fur babies.

Another incredibly unique feature to WyldStay of Greenville is their service. Hot water is brought each morning for tea and coffee upon request, water bottles are provided in a cooler full of ice, bug spray, hand sanitizer, a private fire pit,  linens, and snacks upon request, and every tent receives their first bundle of firewood for free. Beyond creature comforts is the option to request two meal services. We had a beautiful charcuterie board delivered on night one, and opted for a heartier meal of meat and potatoes on night two. The kicker? These are provided by Curean in downtown Greenville; so you aren’t just getting “meat on a tray” or “raw potatoes and some chicken.”

No no, your’e getting a charcuterie board with select meats and prime cheeses, fresh olives and homemade mustards, and for the heartier meal, you receive 80% cooked potatoes that just need to roast slightly over a flame, fresh cut and seasoned veggies, and marinated meats in all the good-stuff pre-wrapped and ready for firing.

They are brought to your tent on -basically- a glamping “silver platter.” The hard work is done. With the charcoal, utensils, plates, etc provided, you don’t do a thing besides heat and eat. Both options were exceptional and beyond our expectations. Made for a very romantic, non-messy dining experience.

Couple things to note, these 30 acres have just begun to see WyldStay of Greenville’s magic. There are big plans ahead. Currently, there is one public bath house on site, with three toilets and two showers, however, these will be expanding. A few units will have bathrooms attached, and eventually an ADA certified tent will be built at the same time as a compliant restroom. It’s a process.

Plans don’t stop there, in the coming years, the 5 current safari tents will turn into 10, there will be more romantic and couple-focused geodomes built across the pond, a home transitioned into an AirBnB, and perhaps even an Anna Cabin (look it up, it’s the coolest thing.) There will be gardens with farm-to-table food events, space for live entertainment, lavender fields, blueberry fields, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more animals made their way to the area.

Don’t wait for the changes to check them out though, right now the overnight prices are extremely reasonable and the owner is open to suggestions. You could help form the dream of what WyldStay of Greenville will be in the years to come. You could help shape it for the next generation that experience the wonder.
