Travel Changes In 2024

The freedom of travel is back in full swing. In fact, it’s BEEN back since the beginning of 2023. Dare I say, 2022 even. But this year is going to look a little different. People are still working remotely across the planet. We are recognizing as humans that the world is wee-bit smaller than we pictured as kids, and much easier to explore.

Without the constant restraints of social distancing, our immune systems (finally) being a little stronger, and airlines getting their ducks-in-a-row with less cancelations (hopefully) now that they’ve had time to figure things out, this could mean BIG things for the travel-inspired individual.

I did major digging. Looking at tourism board statistics on who went to Italy in 2023. Surveys about who plans to travel to Asia in 2024. How many people are over-packers and backpack bringers. Figured out a few things about the way travel will look in 2024….

Bottom line. It’s not slowing down. In fact, the amount of people who will travel is expected to skyrocket. Dare I say, be “record-breaking.” One study found that 54% MORE people will want to travel in 2024, than they did in 2023.

Travel costs are also expected to rise. No surprise here. Supply and demand, obviously. And why not raise prices when 57% of people who will travel are predicting and preparing to pay more in 2024.

However, I hope the countries that rely on tourism also pay attention to THIS stat. A whopping 67% of people who want to travel ALSO say they are picking their destinations based on the “best deals.” Travelers also aren’t married to specific dates and times this year either. If it’s $200 less to travel somewhere a month earlier than they planned, they are taking their trip a month earlier.

Bottom line, if you’re planning to travel in 2024: buckle up. You’re going to have quite a few friends on the adventure with you. If you’re not a fan of crowds, plan to travel to smaller areas. Domestically in the United States, aim for small towns outside of major cities. Rent a car and go explore. If you’re traveling Internationally, plan to avoid booking flights in the peak-seasons like spring and fall.

Either way, no one is saying this trend will dip downward in 2025 or beyond, so best to just embrace our current, new “norm” and ride the wave of excitement everyone has for seeing our beautiful planet.

If you’re thinking “NOPE” I want somewhere no people will ever go… try Mars?

Obviously joking. Do you have any big trips already planned? Rolling your eyes? I’d love to know where your next adventure is off to! Send me a message on instagram!
